Children's books in the 0-6 age group, please!
Buk bilong Pikinini is grateful for all the wonderful children's books we receive from the general public and publishers in Australia. At the moment we have a shortage of books for young children and would greatly appreciate more donations of early readers, books with big pictures and big text. We recently received a donation in Canberra of second hand Dick Bruna books which will be perfect for the younger children to enjoy.
Thank you Random House!
Buk bilong Pikinini wishes to thank Random House for the donation of some fantastic children's books. There were 2 boxes of brand new and exciting children's fairy tales, young readers and also a few copies of Wendy Harmer's Pearlie and Opal (pictured above left) about two very energetic fairies. We hope to receive many more great books like these!

School children collecting books for Buk bilong Pikinini
Buk bilong Pikinini would not exist without our wonderful book collectors and donors. When children get involved with collecting books or funds for Buk bilong Pikinini they usually get very passionate about helping others who are less fortunate. We are very grateful for your help! Please keep the books coming!
Please let us know if you conduct a book drive so we can thank you here!
In 2011-2012 Buk bilong Pikinini would like to thank the following schools for book donations:
Canberra Grammar Boys School, Canberra
O'Connor Cooperative School, Canberra
Turner Primary School, Canberra
Ainslie Primary School, Canberra
St. Benedicts, Canberrra
Xavier College, Kew - Victoria
Mary Mackillop Primary School, Birkdale, Queensland
Michelle Chapman has supervised and organised two book collections and has collected more than 3000 books with donations of books from her church community and St Josephs Primaray school in Charlestown. Both of her children have been very involved with collecting and "quality checking" the books. Here is what she has to say:
"I have really enjoyed collecting the books for Buk Bilong Pikinini. The school that my son attends, really got behind this project, so I have the kids and families of St Josephs Primary School Charlestown to thank for all the books! I know the kids there were really happy to know they were helping the children over in PNG, and are now really proud of their achievement in collecting so many books. I really hope this helps your charity add to the great work you do over there.
For me personally, this is my second book collection and I really enjoy it. I am happy to think other children might be inspired to read, and learn the love of reading as my own children have. I look forward to doing another collection in the future, and would like to be involved in any other project you may have happening, so please keep me informed."

Mrs. Jennifer Thompson, Director of Early Childhood at Canberra Grammar Boys School Northside Campus and Lucy Russell with donated books.
Canberra Grammar Boys School has donated a large number of great books from their fete both in 2011 and 2012 and the Northside Campus also conducted a very successful book collection in 2011. The children donated 100 dollars and the school has invited Buk bilong Pikinini to conduct another book drive this year.
Lily Jacobs from Xavier College in Kew,Victoria.
Lily had a theme at school about "How we Organise Ourselves". The class has been looking at ‘our rights and responsibilities as global citizens’ and as part of that program was asked to initiate a personal action that would help people in need.
