An event at Buk bilong Pikinini’s Lawes Road Library in Port Moresby will today celebrate the support the organization has received from a partnership between EFM, Seafast and Buk bilong Pikinini since 2008. Buk bilong Pikinini estimates that more than 300,000 books have been shipped free of charge to Papua New Guinea thanks to this collaboration.
The service donated to Buk bilong Pikinini by Seafast includes pick-up of donated high quality books from publishing houses and book donors across Australia, the provision of 4 storage depots and the shipping of books to Papua New Guinea. Once the books have arrived at port in Port Moresby, Express Freight Management organizes the customs clearance and handling and delivers the books to Buk bilong Pikinini’s storage facility located with Hastings Deering. Without this truly amazing collaborative effort by EFM and Seafast, Buk bilong Pikinini would never have been able to stock each of its now 16 libraries with more than 3000 high quality children’s books and also be able to donate books to schools and communities across PNG.
Hellen White, Manager of EFM, (pictured above right) has had long-term involvement with Buk bilong Pikinini and was instrumental in establishing this service said: “When I first heard of the work of Buk bilong Pikinini and realized that there was no knowledge in the organisation on freight forwarding and customs clearance, I approached EFM Managing Director, Bob Howden, to see if we could make BbP our cause. To have seen the joy on the faces of thechildren when they read and to know that this will give disadvantaged children a better start has been a remarkable reward for our efforts. I have been privileged to serve on the board of directors, to be a member of the 'Friends' group and to organise a number of successful fundraisers. I hope the Buk bilong Pikinini continues its remarkable work.”
Anne-Sophie Hermann – Founder said: “Buk bilong Pikinini is grateful to the great people at Seafast and Express Freight Management for allowing us to provide valuable learning opportunities to the most vulnerable children living in marginalized communities across PNG.
We are looking forward to be able to assist more regions of Papua New Guinea with high quality literacy materials to ensure children will have the opportunity to be come literate and enjoy reading throughout their life.
Buk bilong Pikinini is able to operate successfully thanks to financial donations and tailor-made in-kind services from all our generous corporate supporters.”
