The sixth library to be established by Buk bilong Pikinini is in Goroka, Highlands Province and was opened to the children in May 2010.
This library is located at the Bird of Paradise Hotel, in a former pub of the hotel, in the city centre of Goroka. This library is the largest library in terms of space and more than 300 children have been seen to be lining up to get in. The library can only comfortably hold 100 children so our librarians had to organise their days into three sessions, so that all the children enjoyed a 2 hour daily slot.
Buk bilong Pikinini hopes to establish more libraries in Goroka as well as a regional office so we can start our outward expansion and can start getting books into the hands of children living throughout the Highlands. A new library is currently under construction and will open early 2013.
This library is sponsored by our Platinum Founder Sponsor Steamships Ltd., which also sponsor our Lawes Road, Port Moresby and Lae, Morobe Province libraries. Steamships Ltd. also holds one Director position on our Board of Directors.
