Kaikai bilong Pikinini
Kaikai bilong Pikinini is a subsidiary of the Buk bilong Pikinini charity organization.

Kaikai bilong Pikinini was set up immediately following the opening of the Buk bilong Pikinini library in April 2008. At that time, it was brought to the attention of members of the charity that there was an acute shortage of milk and food supplies. Although the hospital sought to provide some food for its patients, it was unable to provide enough to meet the needs of the malnourished and chronically ill children.

Buk bilong Pikinini members felt that it was necessary to respond to this crisis and set up Kaikai bilong Pikinini. Kaikai bilong Pikinini aimed to ensure a continuous supply of milk and food specifically to the children hospitalized in the tuberculosis, HIV and malnutrition children’s ward at Port Moresby General Hospital.

Buk bilong Pikinini and Kaikai bilong Pikinini wishes to thank everyone involved in donating funds, collecting milk powder, UHT milk, canned food and/or rice as well as fresh fruit and vegetables.
Other than purchasing milk powder, Kaikai bilong Pikinini has been able to donate a much-needed suction machine, baby scales and other small items to the ward thanks to your generous donations.

The Port Moresby General Hospital currently seems able to adequately provide for the children residing in the Malnutrition, Tuberculosis and HIV ward and Kaikai bilong Pikinini has not been contacted for assistance.
Buk bilong Pikinini has therefore decided to use the remaining funds to conduct a nutritional education programme in our library at the ward. Every Friday, a Buk bilong Pikinini member brings fresh fruit to the children in the library and conducts a discussion about healthy food. The Buk bilong Pikinini teacher librarian educates the children on a daily basis about nutrition, and is supported by books, posters and craft materials in order to conduct this programme efficiently.

For children living with HIV and tuberculosis a healthy diet is essential and sometimes key to survival. Buk bilong Pikinini believes that it is important to maintain this nutritional education programme and would be grateful for financial donations to sustain this.
