Pari village Elementary School

Our Library Learning Centre in Pari village, Port Moresby is the result of a partnership with Hon. Dadi Toka through the Motu Koita Assembly and the National Capital District (NCD) and our foundational platinum sponsor Steamships Trading Limited.

The partnership will see the establishment of 5 LLCs in Motu Koita villages across the capital. The NCD covers the costs for the buildings while Steamships covers operational costs. Steamships has been assisting the Buk bilong Pikinini with the establishment of LLCs since 2009 including in Lae and Goroka.

The LLC is located at Pari Elementary School which has more than 200 children enrolled.

Independence Day celebrations are always a great opportunity for the children to share stories about their culture and get dressed up in traditional attire or colours of the PNG flag.

Pari village is a traditional Motu Koita fishing village where the houses are built out over the water.

At this LLC we are able to enrol 40 5-year-old children into our Early Childhood Education program to prepare the children for school.

Rupert Bray, Chief Operating Officer for Steamships Trading Company Ltd. said: “Our relationship with the Motu Koita people is as old as the company itself. To have the chance to provide the youngest people in the MKA community the best possible start on their education journey is a privilege. We’re very proud of our status as a foundation partner of Buk bilong Pikinini and excited at this very worthwhile contribution to nation building”.

We held a big celebration at the school with our partners to announce the opening of the Library Learning Centre for the Pari village children.
