Buk bilong Pikinini celebrates Universal Children’s Day (ICD) across PNG

Children enrolled at Buk bilong Pikinini’s (BbP) Library Learning Centres have been busy celebrating their rights with fun activities in the lead up to International Children’s Day on Sunday the 20th of November.

Universal Children’s Day is celebrated annually on 20th November. Its goal is to improve child welfare worldwide, promote and celebrate children’s rights and promote togetherness and awareness amongst all children.

BbP children learnt that they too have rights. They advocated for their rights with fun activities and held a demonstration with signs such as ‘the right to be included’, ‘the right to live in a clean environment’, ‘the right to healthy food’, ‘the right to be treated fairly’, ‘the right to be heard’ and the ‘right to be educated’.

It is so important to mark this occasion to make sure children feel supported, cared for, educated and heard.

A special event will be held with the Olympic Committee on Friday at 10am at BbP’s Library Learning Centre at UPNG. The children will meet 4 athletes and learn about being healthy through fun sports activities. BbP will also be receiving a book donation from the OC to mark International Children’s Day.
