Warehousing support continues

Credit Corporation recognises the importance of improving literacy rates in PNG so it has continued its support towards Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP), a not-for-profit organisation focused on improving literacy rates in the country.

Credit Corporation PNG has again this year supported BbP with a sponsorship of K20,000 to assist with warehousing - to store the hundreds of thousands of books the charity organisation brings into the country.

BbP was founded in 2007 with a mission to help increase literacy rates in Papua New Guinea through the establishment of children’s libraries and the provision of high-quality Early Childhood Education program and books. The books are used as part of the ECE program and also to assist children across the country with their education and ability to access books.

BbP Executive Officer Leanne Resson - upon receiving the cheque on Friday in a small ceremony at Tatana Library Centre in Tatana Village, Port Moresby - said: “Through support like this from our partners we are able to continue to provide our services in Port Moresby and beyond. The K20 000 yearly sponsorship has helped us with storage of our books and teaching resources that are not only used by our libraries and learning centres here in the nations’ capital but have gone out to other provinces where we not only have our Library Learning Centres but are restocking or stocking community and school libraries as well.”

Credit Corporation group CEO Danny Robinson said: “The K20 000 committed this year reinforced the relationship between the two organisations.

Impressed with the phonics demonstration done by the students during the cheque presentation, he said “that he is happy that this will go a long way in helping the students in the future. The phonics demonstration by the students is something that they will take with them into the future, giving a strong foundation.”

He added that they will continue to support to improve literacy rates in PNG.”

Anne-Sophie Hermann, BbP Founder and Chair said: “Schools and children across the county are in great need of books and literacy materials to support their education as most Public Libraries are no longer operating and school libraries lack recent and relevant books. We are grateful for the support we have received from Credit Corp since 2017 to manage our books. The better storage space we have the better our support for schools will be. We are also grateful to Pacific Palms Property for the reduced rent price we receive for our Badilly warehouse.
