When I Grow Up I want to be a Graphic Designer - Book Launch
Graphic Design is everywhere – on signs, brochures, book covers, artwork and even on PNG’s notes and coins. Being a Graphic Designer can lead to many exciting jobs and creative artistic opportunities.
To launch a new book entitled ‘When I Grow Up, I want to be a Graphic Designer’ 10 Buk bilong Pikinini children went on a field trip visit to the Theodist Business Store and learnt how Graphic Designers work. The children had the opportunity to see how big printing machines work and created their very own brochure.
The event included an official launch reading by Graphic Designer role model Polen Ikunti and mini professional talent in the Theodist Book Shop and Reading Corner. In addition to this, a K50,000 cheque for Theodist’ generous annual Gold sponsorship was presented to Buk bilong Pikinini.
As part of Theodist's commitment to corporate social responsibility and its ongoing sponsorship of Buk bilong Pikinini, this collaboration seeks not only to enrich the educational materials available to children in Papua New Guinea but also to underscore the importance of corporate and non-profit partnerships in fostering community growth and development.
"Ryan Pini, spokesperson for Theodist, stated, 'We are deeply honoured and excited about this collaboration. It is our way of giving back to a community that has given us so much. We hope that through this reader book, young minds will be ignited with curiosity about the vast world of printing and design.’”
The project, a blend of Theodist’s cutting-edge printing technology and the innocent creativity of children from Buk bilong Pikinini, showcases the behind-the-scenes workings of Theodist's graphic design and printing department. The aim? To inspire young minds about the magic and potential of the printing and design world.
The reader books have been published by BbP with the financial support from the Sir Brian Bell Foundation. The children have been beautifully captured in their mini professional roles by BbP and Photographer Roan Paul with editing carried out by BbP Founder, Anne-Sophie Hermann and Wild Dog books.
