When I Grow Up I want to be a Rugby Player - Book Launch

To launch a new book entitled ‘When I Grow Up, I want to be Rugby Player’

10 Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) children will go on a field trip to visit the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium to meet with SP Hunters Players and learn what is required for the profession.

The event will include an official launch reading by SP Hunters and 5-year-old mini professional talent John Maximus Rea. The children will also have the opportunity to have a short pretend training session with the SP Hunters Players.

The role model for the reader is Ase Boas, both former SP Hunters and Kumul Player. Ase Boas is currently playing for the Agmark Gurias.

The reader will be used as part of BbP’s Early Childhood Education program to motivate the children to think about their future career choices. In addition to being a great tool for literacy, this reader will also encourage the children to have a healthy life-style, which includes eating local foods, drinking lots of water and getting plenty of sleep. All key ingredients to be a successful athlete.

Rugby balls have been donated by the Sir Brian Bell Foundation and Hastings Deering and will be used at each Library Learning Centre to teach the children basic ball skills.

The reader books have been published by BbP with the financial support from the Sir Brian Bell Foundation. The children have been beautifully captured in their mini professional roles by BbP and Photographer Roan Paul with editing carried out by BbP Founder, Anne-Sophie Hermann and Wild Dog books.

BbP has already published 13 titles which include a Pilot (PNG Air), - Teacher (BbP), - Store Manager (Brian Bell), - ICT Officer (Niunet), - Farmer (9 Mile Farm/Ilimo Dairy, – Paramedic (St Johns Ambulance), - Architect (Pacific palms Property), - Pastry Chef (Airways Hotel), - Heavy Equipment Operator (Hastings Deering), - Engineer (ExxonMobil), - Pharmacist & Nurse (CPL) and Banker (BSP).

Children enrolled at BbP’s Library Learning Centres across PNG will study the different professions with play-based learning activities, field trips, visits from professionals and plenty of reading.
