Vehicle donation just in time for Literacy Week

“The wheels on the bus go round and round …” sang Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) children as they helped the organisation take reception of a Nissan Urvan 15-seater bus donated by ExxonMobil PNG.

The event took place at BbP’s Library learning Centre at UPNG as part of celebrations for International Literacy Day. BbP celebrates Literacy Week with a strong focus on literacy but also numeracy, early STEM and cultural knowledge.

BbP’s Literacy Week activities have been sponsored by ExxonMobil PNG for a number of years and includes support for the weeks’ activities at all Library Learning Centres across the country.

As a result of this generous support, BbP has been able to upgrade its numeracy program and allow for plenty of toys such abacus scales, shape sorters, measuring tapes, numeracy games and much more. This year has seen the addition of 10X magnifying glasses, which will help to foster the children’s basic science and observation skills.

The donation of the bus comes at a time, where all BbP’s vehicles have aged and are in great need of renewal. The 15-seater Nissan bus will greatly assist the organisation with logistical operations and moving to and from Library Learning Centres, taking children on field trips, transporting books to the airport for books to be airfreighted to schools across PNG.
